Love Moves to That Place Again

from by Tim Vitullo

Autumn, she’s a heart breaker,
Greets you warmly then leaves you cold.
Fall always was your favorite time of year,
But all of this falling’s getting pretty old.

It’s much sooner than it should have ever been,
When love moved to that place again.

Who knew you'd have to make tracks,
And hurry back to settle in your roots?
Lady, before you even had the chance,
To kick off those coffee-colored boots?

Keeping up with you was so much fun back then,
Before love moved to that place again.

I lost a very good friend once before,
She packed it up for bigger things out west.
Ain’t it funny how you girls all long for the east,
Maybe someone greater than us really knows best?

Flashing lights, blue and red, across the river,
Alert us to the changing of the guard.
The good book said that being a stand-up man,
Never should be this goddamn hard.

Maybe I chose the wrong destination,
Before loved moved to that place again?

It rises, old muscles creaking,
Less atrophied than I would have guessed.
It’s clear as I look to that corner of the world,
That someone greater knows no more than the rest.

Please sign on the dotted line in black or blue pen,
So love can move to that place again.

Maybe I chose the wrong destination,
Before love moved to that place again?
